Raising Film Funds in Today’s World

Sorry I haven’t written much lately. Have some projects gearing up and really busy.

But, the question as an indie filmmaker always comes back to: “How the heck do we fund this beast!” Of course, it’s not really a “beast” so much as an unrequited love – that sits in the dark until we, as filmmakers, can bring it to life.

Well, a couple friends of mine who are internet marketing mavens (at least in my eyes), and myself – we’ve been working thru some ideas.

So, for the next few months I’m going to be posting about making our films, what we are doing to raise funds, and how it’s going. I hope that along the way I will be able to share some interesting pieces of information and resources to other filmmakers. AND, I will try VERY hard to post something every two weeks. :-) So, let’s say the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. I even wrote it on those dates in my day planner to remind me. :-)

I will address each project separately most of the time, but here is what I’m currently working on, with friends of course:

1.) “Unnamed Project” – a great deal of research has been done over the past few years that link a very strong relationship between domestic violence and animal abuse. We have a professional crew and editor on board, but now we need to raise about $10,000 for this very important educational documentary “short.” Paul Grabowski will be directing this film.

2.) 20 WAYS – a narrative short film (15-20 minutes) about a woman dumped via a text message. As she goes through various stages of anger and grief, she fantasizes about how to get even with her “evil ex-girlfriend.” Suzanne Westenhoefer has expressed interest in the role of the evil ex. I will be directing this film.

3.) Finishing funds for FACES: Same-Gender Marriage in New Mexico. This has been a long labor of love and in the final stretch. I’ll be looking for funds for sound design, color and sound correction, final edit, and DVD’s for marketing and distribution (film festivals and such). I am the producer and writer of this film.

4.) And lastly, I’m writing a feature length script for a lesbian private eye film. It’s “working title” is ALL THAT REMAINS. It will include stalkers, murderers, ex-lovers, and maybe some familiar faces from the Sci Fi TV world (that is our goal, anyway).

I hope you’ll come back once in awhile and check out our progress on these projects, and anything else I feel compelled to comment on. Maybe you’ll even consider buying our merchandise. Every little bit helps bring a film to life.

See you at the movies!
