“In Their Hands”–Some legends have it that in the 1860′s a cowboy arrived in Kansas at the end of a long hard cattle drive, walked into a cobbler’s shop and ordered a new pair of boots. But he had his own ideas about how these boots should be made. The result was what has become the traditional western cowboy boot. Fact or fiction, for nearly 150 years this style of boot has not changed a great deal in basic form and structure.
Today,a handful of women across the U.S. make a living at bootmaking and leather work. Their craftsmanship is solid and artistic. “In Their Hands”will present some of these women who give their creative and artistic energies to this traditional art form.
